“support our troops” – but why?

May 2, 2008

Why is it that the media and Iraq war protesters never seem to bring up the Iraqi death count? Sure, they talk about the 4,000 dead U.S soldiers but never the 1,000,000+ dead innocent Iraqis (yes, that’s one million). Do most people just not give a flying fuck about the death of a foreigner…or are they just ill informed? We’re not making these people’s lives any better, we’re killing their families for Christ’s sake.

And what’s all this jargon about “supporting the troops”? How can I support something that I’m fundamentally opposed to? And why is it politically incorrect for me to NOT support mass killing?

Sure I feel bad for the naive lower and middle class soldiers that the U.S government sends to do their dirty work. I even have friends in the service, but supporting their career choice (to a much lesser extreme) would be like a “good German” saluting the S.S troops. This blind patriotism B.S and political rhetoric has got to go.

note: I am aware that there are conflicting reports on the death count. Maybe it’s off a few hundred thousand (in either direction). Regardless, it’s still extremely high.

Here’s why you should support our troops:

Because troops do not decide what they’re going to do. They don’t decide where to go, when to go, or who to fight. They do as they’re told. That’s called duty.

They sign up to defend freedom. What does that mean to you, comfortably sitting behind your desk and comparing our troops to Hitler’s secret service? That is so brave. Luckily for you, you can be certain that you won’t be attacked in your bed at night by secret service of the shadow illuminati government of the U.S. of Halliburton.

    Congratulations on your bravery.

You should read my site. I also enjoy freedom, and I’m on my way to defending it as well.

Ben, I knew this article would piss a lot of people off. You are probably the first of many. I don’t think we should use duty as an excuse to kill innocent people. If this was a ‘just’ war then you wouldn’t hear me complaining. Yeah, we need brave people to serve and protect this country. But we don’t need to them to unjustly occupy another and kill 1 million people in the process – all in the name of following orders. You’re retort is nothing more than garbage, straight out of the blueprint for conservative rhetoric. Somehow if I don’t support the troops, I’m an ungrateful pussy cowering behind my computer screen. Give me a break dude.

ha, I totally agree with you.

Doing the wrong thing due to an ‘obligation’ is just as damning as doing it on your own.
Fighting an unjust war is not honorable.
The cause must be considered before you pledge to fight for it.

Then again, they’re just all brainwashed into being subordinate, so it doesn’t matter if we say anything. We won’t change their minds.

In a world of nothing, they have chosen to value something that is easily abused by corrupt leaders; unquestioning faith.
And we’re supposed to have unquestioning faith in them for doing so!

    Way to go!
    You destroyed a stable country!
And you never thought twice about it!
    I love you!
God bless America and its army of idiot soldiers!

Its unpatriotic to question ideals set forth by ages of tradition…
because tradition has been right soooo many times.

I can agree, but the soldiers really don’t have much of a choice. It’s not their fault, it’s the fault of the dumbass, greedy, scumbag liars that started all this BS. This ain’t no war for freedom, and that’s the most god awful excuse for this war. Fighting for freedom happened in WW2, the civil war, the revolutionary war, and others, and those were justifiable wars. This, however, is just a BS war to make the rich richer. Oh the soldiers? They could care less about them. To the creators of this war, they’re just mindless drones.

One can easily see how brainwashed prople have become to mindlessly follow this bull propaganda and attack anyone who disagrees.

I do not support the troops. Why this has to sound bad beats me. It would be the same as someone making irresponsible decisions and you not backing them. it doesn’t mean you wish death upon them or think they are ungrateful bastards. You just happen to think they are going about something the wrong way, or are wrong in general.

So when the question is asked “Do you support the troops?” answer the question. If your answer is no you may have to explain you don’t think they are heathen child molesting polygamist. You just disagree. (Well this is how I see it)

Your passion about this subject may lead people to believe you hate the troops instead of not supporting them. These are the people who don’t understand that a NO to that question means you disagree with our troops and their actions.

Sorry if this doesn’t make sense. I could say in in a conversation a lot better than text.
